Several questions still remain unanswered over the Sri Lankan armed forces’ conduct during the last phase of the war against LTTE rebels. New photos have emerged claiming that the 12-year-old son of V Prabhakaran, the LTTE supremo, was shot dead in cold blood. So far, the Sri Lankan authorities have always denied shooting anyone who was trying to surrender.
One photo shows the boy sitting in a bunker, alive and unharmed, seemingly in the custody of Sri Lankan troops. Another photo clicked some hours later shows his body with the chest pierced by bullets. The authorities had always claimed that Prabhakaran's son was killed in cross-fire, as troops took over the LTTE's last stronghold. But the images, part of a new documentary, No Fire Zone, to be screened at the Geneva Human Rights Film Festival, indicate that the boy was caught alive and killed later in cold blood.
