Amid a huge outpouring of anger and grief, the Delhi braveheart's body was flown to here from Singapore in early morning hours and cremated in extreme secrecy. The body was flown in a special aircraft of Air India and after landing at IGI airport, the plane was taken to its technical area where PM Manmohan Singh and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi were present to receive the body. Both Singh and Gandhi spoke to the family members and consoled them.
The last rites were performed under a dense cover of fog. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, MoS for Home RPN Singh and Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta also attended the last rites. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi were present at the airport to console the parents when the body arrived.
The aircraft AIC-380A took off from Singapore at around 10:00 pm IST. On the chartered plane were the victim’s family members, who had been in Singapore since she was brought here in an extremely critical condition.
Following her death, the police have slapped murder charges, which can attract the death penalty in the rarest of rare cases, against the six accused and will file the chargesheet on January 3. Investigators said they will seek the harshest punishment for the culprits.
