"Mujhe bacha lo...main jeena chahti hoon (Save me...I want to live)," the 23-year-old Delhi gang rape victim told her family. Though still incapable of speaking, she also enquired about her family and her male friend through written notes.
The doctors call her a fighter who is battling horrifying damage to her body. Though her condition has deteriorated — the doctors had to remove her intestine as it had developed gangrene — her family still hopes that she will beat the odds and survive. She is getting massive shots of morphine to help her cope with the severe pain.
With the intestine removed, she will be on intravenous fluids for life. The doctors say that her condition is critical but stable. She has been on ventilator for nearly 72 hours now. If she continues to require ventilator support, tracheotomy would be performed to insert the ventilator tubes through her neck into the windpipe. Her chances of developing lung infection are high. The doctors commend her spirit and say that to survive the trauma she was through is unbelievable.
