The victim of the Amritsar sexual harassment horror has alleged that the police did not act on her complaint and added that the police fled as assailants shot her father Ravinder Singh, himself a cop. "My father tried to talk to the molesters and asked them what their problem was. They did not listen to him and instead shot at him and ran away. No one came for help, no ambulance came nor did the police. I held my father in my lap and kept calling for help," said the girl.
The victim believes her father would have been alive if the police had acted in time. The ASI was shot dead for protecting his daughter from molesters. The four accused, including an expelled SAD, leader have been arrested.
The prime accused. Akali Dal leader Ranjit Rana, was arrested later with his accomplice. The SHO Ashwini Kumar has also been dismissed for dereliction of duty. The Punjab police DGP Sumedh Singh Saini found it hard to explain how one of his own men was shot dead by molesters in the heart of the Amritsar city, and yet the culprits initially escaped and the police help for Ravinder and his injured daughter took a long time to come.
