In an exempalry punishment, a Mumbai court has sentenced three repeat offenders to death in the Shakti Mills photojournalist gangrape case. Vijay Jadhav, Salim Ansari and Qasim Bengali will go to the gallows for being repeat offenders. Notably, the trio will be the first ones to be awarded death under Section 376-E. Public prosecutor Ujjal Nikam offered 10 reasons as to why the convicts need to be awarded the highest penalty, one of them being no chance of their reformation.
The court, while saying that the ghastly gangrape was planned, sentenced four out of five convicts in one of the two Shakti Mill gangrape cases to jail till natural death. The four, Vijay Jadhav, Qasim Bengali, Salim Ansari and Ashfaque, were sentenced in the telephone operator case while the sentencing in the photojournalist case will take place on April 24. The court had convicted them for gangrape, conspiracy, common intention, unnatural sex, intimidation, wrongful restraint, assault and destruction of evidence.
Two minors, one in each case, are undergoing trial in Juvenile Courts separately.
