Fact is stranger than fiction! And if you happen to be in Afghanistan, there is no distinction between the two.
In a new move, Afghanistan has legalised domestic violence by changing a law so that it will become impossible for anyone to testify against relatives. This effectively gives sanction to honour killings. The change has been passed by the Afghan Parliament and now awaits President Hamid Karzai's assent. It would allow men to attack their wives, children and sisters without any fear of punishment.
Afghanistan had introduced the Elimination of Violence Against Women law in 2009, which criminalized child marriage, selling and buying women to settle disputes, assault and other acts of violence and abuse against women.
