In a unique case in Italy, a father grieving over his dead son got his body permanently preserved by getting the ashes transformed into a diamond. The father got his son's body taken out and cremated before sending the ashes to Switzerland so that they could be compressed into gemstone. The young son had already been buried when his dad came up with the idea.
'Remembrance Diamonds' are created by refining the carbon in ashes, then secured in a chamber under high pressure and a temperature like a volcano's, thereby creating a synthetic diamond.
The father recently got the synthetic 'Remembrance Diamond' after an 8-month wait. The process can cost up to $18,000.
