Tarun Tejpal, Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka, an investigative journal, and renowned fiction writer, has been accused by a female colleague of sexual molestation during the Think Fest in Goa earlier this month. She has alleged that Tarun had tried to attempt rape in the elevator of the hotel where the event was being held. Following the allegation, Taraun had tendered an unconditional apology to her but she was not satisfied with it. Tarun also offered to recuse himself from the editorship of Tehelka for 6 months, in an act of "self-imposed atonement".
Tehelka is a renowned investigative journal which has been exposing corruption and wrongdoings in the corridors of power. This has been the very rationale for its existence and purpose. One of the most well-known sting operations conducted by it was the West End gate case involving ex-BJP President Bangaru Laxman accepting cash in return for a fictitious defence deal.
In the meantime, the Goa Police, after taking suo moto notice of the incident has registered an FIR and started investigating the case. Shoma Chaudhary, who is apparently trying to protect Tejpal by downplaying the incident as an internal matter, has been questioned by the police at length.
