Draft guidelines on regulating the sale of junk food and aerated drinks in and around school premises would be ready by July, the Centre has told the Delhi High Court. The guidelines will be crucial as there is no official definition of junk food till now. This has created confusion among schools over what it should make available to children on their premises. The guidelines will thus clear the confusion and define which foods are healthy and which ones are not.
The court is hearing a PIL by an NGO called Uday Foundation, which sought a ban on junk food and aerated drinks in and around schools.
