BMW has recalled about 570,000 cars in the US and Canada due to a potential failure of the battery cable connector, resulting in engine failure.
The decision affects the 3-Series sedans, wagons, convertibles and coupe models from 2007 - 2011. Also recalled are 1-Series coupes and convertibles from 2008 to 2012, and the Z4 sports car from 2009- 2011. The cable connectors and a fuse box terminal in the cars can degenerate with time and it can break the connection between the battery and the fuse box at, causing the engine to stop suddenly.
Starting March, BMW dealers will inform the car owners and replace the battery connector and secure it free of charge.
