The Competition Commission of India has penalized the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to the tune of Re. 6.75 Crore for abusing its dominant market position. The order comes fater a probe on a complaint filed by the Indian Exhibition Industry Association against the ITPO. The ITPO is the nodal agency to promote external trade and approve the holding of international trade fairs in India and abroad. It organises and also facilitates industrial trade fairs and exhibitions in India and abroad.
The CCI had ordered a probe to ascertain whether ITPO was imposing the discriminatory conditions of compulsory time gap for trade shows and whether it was limiting the services of holding trade shows at Pragati Maidan by giving itself the preferential treatment over other organisers.
