Google will selling its Motorola Mobility cellphone unit to China’s Lenovo for $ 2.91 billion. This comes within two years after it had acquired Motorola's cellphone business $12.5 billion. This move will enable Google to devote its energy to innovation across the Android ecosystem to benefit smartphone users.
The deal does not represent much of a loss for Google, since it will keep a majority of Motorola’s patents. It also pocketed $2.9 billion of Motorola’s cash when it had originally acquired the company.
