TCS, the software gaint, has bagged the Rs. 1,400-crore project of India Post for computerization of counter operations. The project has two parts -- 2 years of implementation work and 5 years of maintenance. The government has approved Rs. 4,909 crore for phase II of the modernisation of post offices under which the department is gearing up to provide real time core banking services also.
TCS had also bagged the mission mode e-governance project and Passport Seva Project from the MEA in October, 2008. Besides TCS, Infosys has also bagged a 700-crore project to help India Post transform its banking and insurance operations in 1.5 lakh post offices.
