Austrian-born actor Maximilian Schell, who won an Oscar for his role of a defence lawyer in "Judgment at Nuremberg," has passed away. He was 83.
It was this role in Stanley Kramer's classic "Judgment at Nuremberg," that earned him global acclaim. Schell's impassioned defence of four Nazi judges on trial for sentencing innocent victims to death won him the 1961 Academy Award. Besides, Schell was also a highly successful concert pianist and conductor, who performed in Berlin and Vienna.
