Lovejoy, also called comet C/2011 W3, has been captured in this fast long and smoky tail by Gerald Rhemann from Austria. The comet was in news in 2011 for doing an impossible feat: Flying through the hot atmosphere of the sun and emerging intact. The comet's encounter with the sun was recorded by at least five spacecrafts.
The comet is visible from the earth around the end of December and is also known as 'The Great Christmas Comet of 2011'.
