Google has released its year-end Zeitgeist list for 2012. The annual list is an indication of what's hot and happening in the online space. The search engine leader analyses billions of search queries to come up with the Zeitgeist - the spirit of the times. This year, Google studied 1.2 trillion searches for its Zeitgeist report.
While web surfers globally mostly searched about a royal princess, the latest iPad, and a record-breaking skydiver, the Indian search trends were very different from the rest.
The top search item in India this year was “IBPS” (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection), followed by “GATE Exams” (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) conducted by the IITs. Sunny Leone, the Indo- Canadian porn star figures No 3 on the list and also No 1 in trending people. The late Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna was the second most searched for person in India this year.
Going by search volumes, “Ek Tha Tiger” was the biggest movie of the year, followed by “Rowdy Rathore”. Kerala and Taj Mahal are the preferred Indians locations for vacationing. The newly opened Yamuna Expressway connecting Greater Noida to Agra is the place most Indians are curious about.
