Cycling champ Lance Armstrong has admitted to doping charges on the Oprah Winfrey show. He has confessed to taking performance-enhancing drugs in an interview to be aired shortly.
The confession marks a stunning reversal as Armstrong has been denying the charges, sticking to his story even after being divested of 7 Tour de France titles. It could also have legal and financial ramifications, especially from sponsors like Nike that had loyally supported him even in the face of the allegations while several other top sponsors had dumped Armstrong.
Before the interview, Armstrong apologized to his cancer charity staff at Livestrong. Armstrong, himself a cancer survivor -- urged the staffers to keep up their great. The Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised almost $500 million since its creation 16 years ago.
