Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda has bagged for India its first medal, a silver, at the Paraolympic Games after bagging silver in the Men's High Jump F42 event. The 24-year old Karnataka man, with an impaired left leg, sailed over a height of 1.74m using the scissors technique in the final of the event to finish second.

Thus, Nagarajegowda becomes only the third Indian after javelin thrower Bhimrao Kesarkar and shot put thrower Joginder Singh Bedi in 1984 to claim a silver at the Games. Nagarajegowda has been supported by Samarthanam, a Bangalore-based NGO  and also by the Indian government.
