To ensure better health and promote sports culture among kids, Sports Minister Ajay Maken has proposed to give school children extra marks for their physical fitness. The proposal gives some weightage to physical fitness in schools across the country. According to the draft on National Physical Fitness Programme (NPFP), to ensure fitness among all schoolers, a system has to be there to assess a child's physical fitness from class V onwards.
A child’s physical fitness is to be rewarded in a manner similarly as in for academic achievement. As per the draft, the top 10 % of gender wise performers shall get an extra 3 per cent, to be added to the percentage obtained in academics.
Subsequently, performers between top 10-20 % will get 2.5 per cent extra, the performers between 20-30 % will get 2 per cent, between 30-40 % will get 1.5 per cent and between 40 to 50 percentage will get additional 1 per cent weightage, which may be converted into grades as per norms.
