AIBA has provisionally suspended woman boxer Sarita Devi for refusing to accept the bronze medal at the Asian Games podium ceremony. While protesting against a controversial verdict, Sarita had refused to wear the medal as she broke down during the ceremony. She took the medal in her hands and wiped her tears holding it, before handing it to South Korean silver medallist Ji-Na Park, who had defeated Sarita in a "bad" referee decision.
The case has been sent for review by the AIBA Disciplinary Commission, implying thereby that Sarita Devi and others cannot participate in the AIBA women's world boxing championships in Korea in 2014. Even though AIBA had taken note of her later apology, it decided to suspend the boxer and the national coaches.
