Star marksman Abhinav Bindra and rookie teenager Malaika Goel clinched a gold and silver medal respectively to add to Indian's tally at the 20th Commonwealth Games. It is Bindra's first individual gold in the CWG. Bindra kept his cool to win the honour in the 10m air rifle event with a score of 205.3 to bring cheers to India. The 16-year-old Malaika gave India its first shooting medal with a silver in the women's 10m Air Pistol event while Heena Sidhu failed to measure up. With these two medals from in shooting, India's overall medals tally has climbed to 9 after collecting seven medals on the inaugural day.
India are placed fourth on the medals table with a tally of 3 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes, next to England (18), Australia (15) and Scotland (10). In the women's section, Malaika shot an aggregate of 197.1 in the finals to finish second and grab her first senior international medal. Former world number one and a favourite Heena Sindhu finished seventh after topping the qualifications.
