Prominent liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Singh Chadha were killed after they fired at each other at a Delhi farmhouse in Chhattarpur area on Saturday afternoon after an altercation over their business interests. The two brothers were arguing over a real estate deal while taking a walk at the farmhouse. Soon the argument turned into a heated altercation after which the firing took place, resulting in the death of both.
The two were rushed to the hospital while the liquor baron was still alive. Ponty had six bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries soon after he was brought in.
Ponty Chadha was the sole liquor distributor in UP. He also had business interests in real estate, sugar mills and film production. His sudden, sharp rise in the last 10 years had led to great speculation about the real source of his wealth and his political affiliations. He was considered to be very close to both the BSP supremo Mayawati and Mulayam Singh of SP, which presently rules Uttar Pradesh.
