89 labourers built 1284 check dams in Bilaigarh range in Chhatisgarh within two days, as per documents with the Forest department ! The documents show that Rs 1095 was given to 28 labourers for constructing dams at one place while on the same day, they were also paid Rs 1100 to construct dams at another place.
A check dam is a small one, temporary or permanent, built across a minor channel. Wood, sand and stones are used to make a check dam to stop water during monsoons in forest areas. Normally, building so many dams would take one month. If 90 labourers work, it takes at least 1 hour to complete the construction. Even if the 84 labourers worked for 8-10 hours a day, they would be able to make 10-12 dams. Following complaints of regularities, the case is being probed.
