Bangalore is as the best city to live in India, pushing down other cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, in terms of overall quality of living on the HR consultancy Mercer's survey. Mercer's Quality of Living Index covers 221 cities, ranked against New York as the base city. The logic behind the survey is that for multinational cos. to adequately compensate their expatriate employees, they must be aware of local circumstances.
Among Indian cities, Bangalore ranks higher than New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata in overall quality of living, according to Mercer's 2012 Quality of Living Index. Bangalore's rise in ranking can be attributed to positive ratings for international schools which are suitable for expatriates. In terms of city infrastructure, however, Mumbai has been ranked the highest followed by Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore. However, no Indian city could find a place in the global list, which is topped by Vienna, followed by Zurich and Auckland at second and third places, respectively.
Other cities in the global top 10 are Munich in fourth place, followed by Vancouver (5th). Dusseldorf dropped one spot to rank 6th followed by Frankfurt (7th), Geneva (8th), Copenhagen (9th), and Bern and Sydney tied in 10th place.
