After Singur, it's Haldia now. In a huge setback to Mamata Banerjee, after a month-long impasse, the ABG-LDA-run Haldia Bulk Terminals has finally walked out from Haldia, quoting law and order issues. A few days ago, one of its senior executive’s wife and child were abducted by the workers’ union and could be freed only after great efforts.
Gurpreet Malhi, CEO of HBT, has also detailed other issues too that plagued HBT for last two years. Allegedly, it was pressurised by the unions to have excess workers.
HBT was one of the most lucrative revenue earners in terms of cargo-hnadling for the Haldia Port.
