In a major boost to higher education, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has proposed 5 new IITs and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Jaitley has proposed the setting up of five new IITs in Jammu, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The five new IIMs are to be set up in Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra and Odisha.
The Finance Minister has also proposed a Centre of Excellence in Madhya Pradesh named after Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan. Besides, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune is be made an 'Institute of National Importance'. Four more All India Institutes of Medical Sciences in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Vidarbha (Maharashtra) and Purvanchal (Uttar Pradesh) have been proposed and has set aside Rs 500 crore for it.
