India is all set for a record foodgrain output in the current crop year, thanks to good monsoons last year which helped planting of winter crops. India, the second biggest rice and wheat grower globally, produced 25.5 crore tonnes of foodgrain in 2012-13 while it had produced a record 25.9 crore tonnes in the year before.

The planting of winter season crops like wheat and rapeseed is over, and they are maturing on expected lines even though severe cold conditions in north India could affect the growth of rapeseed in some areas.
