Dr. Vivek Murthy, 36, has been appointed the youngest Surgeon General in the history of the USA. President Barack Obama has nominated Murthy for the coveted post. The job focuses on public health issues and the Surgeon General is upposed to advise the people of America on various health issues.
Dr Murthy originally belongs to Mandya district of Karnataka. Born in London and brought up in America, Murthy did his MD from Yale School of Medicine. Murthy is co-founder and president of Doctors for America, a Washington-based group that advocates access to affordable, high quality health care. Murthy will replace Regina Benjamin, appointed by Obama in 2009.
