Ranjan Mathai, former Foreign Secretary of India, has assumed the charge of the country’s next High Commissioner to the UK. He succeeds Jaimini Bhagwati, who had retired recently.
Mathai had joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974 after completing Post-Graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Poona. He has earlier served in Indian Missions in Vienna, Colombo, Washington, Tehran and Brussels.
He had served as the Indian Ambassador to France with additional charge of Monaco from January 2007 till he assumed the office of Foreign Secretary from August 2011 to July 2013.
