A Delhi court has sentenced the former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala to 10 years jail in the JBT teachers recruitment scam. Other three main accused have also got a 10- year jail term each.
The Rohini court delivered the sentence against the Chautalas and 53 others guilty of illegally recruiting 3,206 JBTs in 2000. They have been held guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents, conspiracy and abusing their position.
But the Chautalas can continue as MLAs till the disposal of their appeal, if they challenge the verdict withinin three months under the Act. Declared "the main culprit" in the scam, Chautala senior now joins the former BJP president Bangaru Laxman and former Himachal CM Sukhram, earlier convicted of corruption.
The others convicted along with the Chautalas are the then director of primary education Sanjiv Kumar, Chautala's former OSD Vidya Dhar and political adviser to CM, Sher Singh Badshami.
