In a swift and sudden development, Amir Ajmal Kasab, the lone convict in the Mumbai Terror Case, was hanged at 7.26 AM this morning in Yerwada Jail, Pune. He was taken to Pune from Mumbai two days back.
Kasab’s appeal in the Supreme Court had already been rejected. Subsequently, Kasab's mercy petition was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday night. Shortly thereafter, in the dead of the night, Kasab was shifted amid top secrecy and tight security to Pune's high-security Yerawada jail.
On Wednesday morning, at 7.30 am, he was hanged in the jail premises after which a team of doctors declared him dead. Since several graveyards had declined burial to his body, his corpse was laid to rest in the jail itself.
The Indian government had tried to reach to the family of Ajmal Kasab. The date of hanging was decided by the judge and the government had tried to contact his family as per rules.
