Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid plans to take activist Arvind Kejriwal to the court for alleging that the minister was involved in embezzlement of funds meant to help disabled people in several districts of UP. The minister's wife Louise Khurshid, the Project Director, has rejected the allegation that the NGO had indulged in financial irregularities in grants given by Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to the trust for the welfare of physically impaired people.
A TV sting Operation Dhritrashtra conducted by the channel Headlines Today points to grave irregularities in the utilization of grants by the Khurshids. Forged end-use signatures, false stamps, fake affidavits and equipment for non-existent people indicate something seriously wrong with the working of the trust. In fact, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had itself questioned the utilization of grants sanctioned to the trust and in 2011, had ordered a probe. But despite the damning evidence marshalled so far, the Khurshids and the UPA government have tried to deflect public attention by indulging in a mud-slinging campaign instead of focusing on the issue.
