After the controversial TIME cover calling him an underachiever PM, The Washington Post of the USA has taken a dig at PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, calling him a “tragic figure” and an "underachiever".
"India's PM Manmohan Singh helped steer his country to modernity, prosperity and power, but the shy, soft-spoken 79-year-old is in danger of going down in history as a failure," the article says.
The article adds that his "image of the scrupulously honorable, humble and intellectual technocrat has slowly given way to an image of a dithering, ineffective bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government". The article comes in the backdrop of Parliament deadlock. The House could not function for more than half of the Monsoon Session over the alleged coal scam.
The major Opposition parties have been quick to grab the chance and demand his immediate resignation. The Congress, however, said it stands by him and paper will have to apologise for publishing the article.
