The BJP legislative party in Maharashtra Assembly has elected Devendra Fadnavis as its leaders, clearing the way for him to be the new chief minister. Devendra Fadnavis, who is PM Narendra Modi's favourite, will be BJP's first-ever chief minister of the state. Devendra Fadnavis is the Maharastra state unit president has always been a frontrunner for the post.
A high-level BJP team has discussed the initial size of the cabinet and the key portfolios ahead of Friday's swearing in of the new government. Accordingly, in the first round of portfolio distribution, only less than a dozen ministers will be inducted. There's expected to be a single cabinet minister for medical education, public health, and food and drug administration, and another one for home and transport. Devendra Fadnavis is likley to keep the general administration, urban development and housing department portfolios with himself.
