Jitan Ram Manjhi has been handpicked by Nitish Kumar, the outgoing Bihar CM, as the next Chief Minister. He was sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister by Governor D Y Patil, who administered to him the oath of office and secrecy. Besides Manjhi, 17 ministers, including two new faces Dulal Chandra Goswami and Vinay Bihari, both independents, also took the oath.
Manjhi is an MLA from the Makhdumpur reserved seat in Gaya, has been asked to head the government only for the tenure of the current assembly. Manjhi had also lost the recently held Lok Sabha election from Gaya. After his exit in 2005, Manjhi was re-inducted by Nitish in his cabinet in 2008, after he had been cleared of the charges.
