With all major exit polls singing the Modi tune by giving it between 249-289 LS seats, the NDA is all set to storm back to power on its own - almost. The BJP alone is poised to get its highest tally ever — 249 to 289 while the Congress is likely to put up its worst-ever show, with its lowest ever 2-digit tally.
Today's Chanakya exit poll paints the best-ever case scenario for the NDA, by giving it 340 seats, and the BJP alone 291 seats. Should it be true, any party would be winning a majority on its own for the first time since 1984. The AAP, the surprise gaint killer in Delhi assembly elections, may not win even a single seat in Delhi this time while it could put up its best show in Punjab by winning 5 of the 13 seats.
Various exit polls in the past have failed to hit the target, including in 2004 when they had predicted an NDA government. But they have also got it right many times, including in the recent assembly polls held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
