Bombay Jayshree Oscar Nominee For 'Pi's Lullaby' Lyrics

Bombay Jayashri of India has won her first Oscar nomination for writing the lyrics for 'Pi's Lullaby' in Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi'. She is competing with five others for the Music (Original Song) category. Jayashri, a Carnatic singer, is well known in Tamil cinema and has sung for Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raja.



 

The music of 'Pi's Lullaby' has been composed by Mychael Danna and the official credits name Jayashri for the lyric. Including his nomination for Original Score, this is the second Osacr nomination for Danna.

 

The other contenders in the Original Song category are: 'Before My Time' from 'Chasing Ice', J Ralph; 'Everybody Needs a Best Friend' from 'Ted,' Walter Murphy and Seth MacFarlane; 'Skyfall' from 'Skyfall,' Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth and 'Suddenly' from 'Les Miserables,' Claude-Michel Schonberg, Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil.

 

Life of Pi has bagged nominations in 11 categories, including Best Picture and Best Director (Ang Lee) and closely follows Steven Spielberg's political biopic Lincoln with 12 nominations.
