There are three kinds of hit movies in Bollywood: Hits, Super Duper Hits and Sholay. It takes a Sholay to create and keep up the same excitement almost 40 years after release. The epic friendship tale of Jai and Veeru, Basanti-Dhanno duo and the iconic bad man Gabbar Singh has again come alive in 3D. The 3D version of Sholay, which featured Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan hit about 1,000 screens yesterday. Its dialogues like ‘Kitne aadmi the.., Yeh haath mujhe de de thakur, Jo dar gaya, samjho mar gaya, Chal Dhanno’ to ‘Basanti, in kutton ke saamne mat naachna’ are all set to make the audiences nostalgic.
It took three years to complete the 3D conversion. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay was ranked first in the British Film Institute's 2002 poll of ‘Top 10 Indian Films’ of all times. In 2005, the annual Filmfare Awards named it the Best Film of 50 Years.
