Gurcharan Das' latest book "India Grows At Night" makes a liberal case for a strong India, a strong leadership and a system that delivers quick governance and justice. Das' work is based on the enlightenment philos
ophy of Adam Smith and John Locke. So his strong state is not like the autocratic states of Stalin or Mao and or even Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew.
The book is quite timely as India is caught in an endless web of financial irregularities and political uncertainties. Before this one, his earlier books India Unbound and A Fine Family (drama), have been topping the charts.
