Delhi is more polluted than Beijing in spite of green measures such as the Metro and CNG, say new studies. Recent studies put Delhi ona higher pedestal than Beijing, until now called the world’s most polluted city. A major culprit is the addition of 1,000 vehicles daily to the roads of the national capital. The advantage of its Metro network and CNG buses and autos, have been lost with pollution reaching alarming levels.
The annual Environmental Performance Index study done by Yale and Columbia Universities ranks India last in terms of air pollution’s effects on human health. It finds that the levels of PM 2.5, a key yardstick, were five times the safety threshold.
