Singapore tops a list of 131 cities to emerge as the world's Most Expensive City To Live In, as per the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Paris, Oslo, Zurich and Sydney are the other cities on the top five list. Tokyo has fallen to the 6th place this year.
Interestingly, Mumbai and New Delhi are among the least expensive cities in the world. Mumbai's prices are kept low by large inequalities of income as the low wages earned by many Mumabi workers keep spending low and government subsidies have helped them stay like that only.
The strong Singaporean currency, coupled with the high cost of running a car and soaring utility bills, has contributed to Singapore becoming the costliest city. Incidentally, Singapore is also the costliest city for buying clothes.
