Want to get rid of all negative thoughts? Just pen them down, tear up and toss them in the trash, says new research published in the journal Psychological Science.
The researchers at the Ohio State University, USA and Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain have found that when people wrote down their thoughts on paper and then threw the paper away, they mentally discarded the thoughts as well. Contrarily, people are more likely to use their thoughts while making judgments if they first wrote them on paper and put it in a pocket to save it.
At some level, it can sound silly. But the team says that it really works – by physically throwing away or protecting your thoughts, you influence how you end up using those thoughts.
